Overview

About Lobuche peak climbing;
Lobuche East Peak, at an elevation of 6119 meters, is an exciting and challenging way to upgrade your Clazzic Everest Base Camp. Trekking with a beautiful climb in the centre of the Khumbu Valley of Nepal. Though less relatively as high as Island Peak (6189m), Lobuche East Peak Climbing is technically more challenging. Lobuche Peak is a genuine 6000m mountaineering experience requiring basic knowledge of rock and ice climbing techniques at high altitudes.

Lobuche peak climbing trip facts;
Lobuche East is a favourite because of the exceptional panorama seen from the summit: Lhotse, Nuptse, Pumori, Lobuche, Ama Dablam, Makalu and notably, a fantastic view of Mount Everest, which is not visible from Island Peak. Lobuche consists of several small summits, but ‘Lobuche Peak’ refers to Lobuche East rather than Lobuche West, a different and more difficult peak. The popular route to Lobuche East is from the south ridge.

Lobuche peak climbing route;
Our Lobuche East Peak Climbing starts with the Everest Base Camp Trekking, which in itself is a splendid trekking trail through beautiful forests, Sherpa villages and monasteries with endless great views of the Khumbu Mountains. Proper acclimatization is essential for Lobuche East Peak Climbing and trekking the Everest Base Camp. Kala Patthar first provides the perfect preparation for a carefully paced climb of Lobuche East Peak.
After reaching Everest Base Camp and the famous Kala Patthar, from where we enjoy the fantastic view of Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, Pumori and other mountains, we return to Lobuche village, the trailhead for Lobuche Peak Climb. The trail up the valley from Lobuche becomes increasingly steep and rocky as we near the Lobuche Base Camp, 4950m. From Base Camp, we clamour over steep stone terraces and snowy slopes using fixed ropes to reach the ridge along the southwest face where we set up High Camp, 5600m. We get superb views of Amadablam, Cholaste, Thamserku, Kantega Peak and Tawache Peak on the way.

Lobuche peak climbing summit day;
To reach the summit from High Camp, we cross over steep stone slabs, which may be covered with ice and snow. We must ascend 50m on a 45-degree snow wall to reach the proper summit ridge. We use fixed ropes. The sharp snowy ridge to the first summit is exposed. There is a descent which you may need to rappel down before the final sharp ascent to the summit. We acknowledge an incredible view of some of the most splendid mountains on earth from the summit.

Best time to climb Lobuche peak climbing ;
The best season for Lobuche East Peak Climbing is from March to May (Spring) and September to November (Autumn). However, the winter is also a great time to climb if you are well prepared for the cold weather. In the crisp and cold month of December, the views of the mountains are crystal clear, and there are fewer tourists around. The duration of the Lobuche East Peak Climbing can be lengthened or shortened according to your preference. Trailblazers Nepal will arrange every detail of your Lobuche East Expedition; lodge accommodation, guides, food, and all the necessary climbing and camping equipment.

Lobuche peak climbing difficulty level;
Climbing Lobuche East Peak is moderately challenging. However it does have some technical sections and does require trekking and mountaineering skills. It lies at an altitude of 6119 meters and requires climbers to be physically fit for the successful ascent to the summit. Initially, the climbers will take the route of Everest Base Camp, trekking through the diverse terrains, and then start the climb from Lobuche Base Camp to High Camp and to the summit, which requires a good level of strength and knowledge about navigating through the steep terrains.

The trails in these parts reflect the large roll Tibetan Buddhism plays in the lives of the Sherpa people. There are many mani stones, which are large stones with Tibetan prayers chiseled into them, all along the trails. You will soon become familiar with the customary way of passing chortens, mani stones, and prayer wheels in a clockwise direction. We reach Phakdingma, a small village beside the Dudh Kosi River.

Today will be one of the hardest days of the trek. So, we take it slowly, giving our body a chance to acclimatize and our senses have a chance to take in the sights into the heart of Khumbu. From Phakding, the trail follows Dudh Koshi valley north for 2-3 hours to Monjo, the entrance to the Sagarmatha (Everest) National Park. There is a good view of Thamserku, 6608m. We follow the river to the Hillary Bridge, a fantastic suspension bridge that spans the deep chasm over the confluence of the Dudh Koshi and Bhote Koshi. From here, it is a tough climb to Namche. The trail continues to climb through pine forest. About half way up there, is a vantage point that provides our first view of Mt. Everest rising majestically from behind the great ridge of Nuptse-Lhotse.
Namche is a beautiful village in itself with colorful houses and lodges and prayer flags, and the setting is majestic as it is spread on the steep sides of a horse-shoe shaped valley facing the beautiful Kongde Ri Peak.

Besides, the great bazaar with a wonderful variety of shops to visit, today gives us a chance to visit the Sherpa Cultural Centre which has an interesting collection of mountaineering items and photographs. There is also the option of a day walk to the pretty village of Khumjung where Sir Edmund Hillary built his “Schoolhouse in the Clouds” and the famed Khunde hospital. We can see the “scalp of a yeti” at Khumjung monastery.

Today, we follow the Classic Everest Base Camp trail and enjoy one of the most scenic days of our trek. We start with a short, steep climb out of Namche up to a ridge which meanders above the Imja Khola. As we hike along, we get spectacular views of Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse and also the beautiful Ama Dablam. We descend through rhododendron forest to Phunki Tenga near the Dudh Kosi where we will have our lunch. A suspension bridge takes us across the river and we start an ascent of about 1 hr through pine and rhododendron forest. We will likely spot some wildlife such as Himalayan Thar, Musk Deer and pheasants while passing through the forests. The trail becomes less steep after leaving the forest. We climb for another 1.5 hours through grassy meadow to reach the Tengboche monastery on the crest of a long ridge which stretches to the summit of Kantega. Sir Edmund Hillary helped to re-build this famous monastery after it was destroyed by fire in 1989. From Tengboche, the views of the Everest massif as well as all the other major peaks of the area will be totally spellbinding.

The trail switchbacks through the boulders of the glacier's terminal moraine. At the top of this climb, you'll see many stone cairns built as memorials to the many Sherpas who have died while climbing Mt. Everest. We continue to climb to Lobuche, 4910 m, from where you will see the awesome Mt. Pumori Peak, 7220 m closely.

Since we cannot guarantee favorable weather for the scheduled summit day, we have allowed an extra day in the schedule. If we are unable to summit the Lobuche Peak due to bad weather or some other reason, such as someone in the group having acclimatization problems, it is useful to have an extra day. If the trip goes smoothly, and we do not need this spare day, we will continue our return journey to Lukla.

Gradually, we trek down to Shomare and again pass through the Pangboche village, the same trail we used on the way up. The trail leads down to a river. After crossing the river, we walk for an hour up through the forest and reach Tengboche.
From Tengboche, we descend to the bridge over the Dudh Kosi at Phunki Tenga where there are water driven prayer wheels before making our way to Namche.

Boosted by all our new red blood cells, we rush down the footpath toward Sagarmatha National Park gate, in Jorsale. Later, Lukla's footpath leads us back to the first villages we saw two weeks ago: Gumila, Phakdingma, and Choplung. The high peaks disappear behind the hills. This last evening in the mountains is the ideal opportunity for a farewell party with your sherpa guides and porters, and a good chance to sample some chhang, try Nepali and Sherpa dance and look back on the memorable trekking experiences. The staff will be hoping for some precious and well deserved tips.
